More about us…
We are not a corporate type of business enterprise. The art of henna came to us as a passion to create, using henna as our medium. For some it came on as a way to keep our cultural tradition. We were not trained to act on henna from a business standpoint, yet we love to share our art & work in our business. We all truly love what we do & really strive to be the best we can be at all the parties & events we get hired for. We are all extremely friendly, happy & outgoing. We all come out to you with complete humbleness & appreciation for the job.
Is HENNA safe?
Yes. Henna has been used for centuries as a healing plant. It has antiseptic and cooling properties, as well as its ability to color. It is often mixed with spices & essential oils to enhance its staining properties. Our henna is 100% NATURAL crushed henna leaves imported from Moroccan or India. Our ingredients are simple: henna powder, essential oils, lemon juice & sugar. We absolutely do not use "black henna" which can cause serious allergic reactions. For very young children or pregnant women we can prepare the henna mixture using lavender essential oil (which is the gentlest). Each batch of henna is hand made personally by us. Each batch is a two day process to create & requires constant attention in order for the henna to release it’s staining properties.
What are some factors that may affect henna stain?
Thicker, rougher skin such as that on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet absorb henna color better, and stain darker. Certain oils, such as baby oil, Vaseline, other petroleum based products, and sunscreen, as well as Vitamin E and antioxidants will also prevent henna from staining the skin.If you are African American henna will not be as noticeable on your skin color. However if you notify us ahead of time, we can bring out color gels, sparkles & glitter to really enhance the henna design and make it even more beautiful. Skin chemistry plays a big part in the color of the henna stain, which may be affected by stress, diet, body temperature and hormones, as well as beauty products used. Henna stains will always be darker on the hands and feet, and lighter on the torso. The longer henna paste is left on the skin, the darker the stain will be. Time is always crucial; henna stains take 12-48 hours to oxidize and darken. Application of additional heat, avoiding chlorinated water (even tap water) for 12-24 hours, as well as applying natural vegetable oils to protect the stain may contribute to a darker, more long lasting henna design.
Do you use stencils?
No, each design is applied freehand. As with any hand-done art form, every design will have its own unique variations.
How much space do you need?
We would only need two chairs & either a small side or coffee table. We sometimes make it “traditional style” & sit on the floor with pillows & ottomans. Contact us about the décor if you would like us to supply this for your event.
Helpful supplies?
It would be incredibly helpful if you could supply us with adequate lighting, standard reading type of lighting is great. If you know in advance that your event will be in a non-lit area, please inform us to bring along lighting, in case you cannot supply one.
